Back pain is the leading cause of disability in the world. In the United states the prevalence and cost to treat these patients has continued to skyrocket. Recognizing the failure of healthcare to successfully manage this population multiple publications beginning in 2001 with The Spine Journal (Haldeman) as well as 2011 (Murphy et al.) and 2017 (Goertz et al.) to name a few, called for, and began to define, a specialist in spine who was well trained to accurately diagnose this population and knowledgeable of the appropriate treatment pathways for the subgroups of patients within it.
In addition to previous state registered specialties in Spine Trauma, and Spine MRI Interpretation, Dr. LoVette completed a Fellowship in Primary Spine Care through the State University of New York Jacobs School of Medicine in 2024. This program is provided jointly with Cleveland University College of Chiropractic and is one of the first programs of this kind being credentialed in both medical and chiropractic academia and open to Medical, Osteopathic, and Chiropractic Physicians.
